The Clinical Laboratory Scientist Lead performs clinical laboratory testing of blood and body fluid constituents as requested by physicians. Evaluates and reports data for diagnosis and treatment of disease. Serves as an authority on test procedures and assists in training and maintenance of staff competencies.
Daily Responsibilities- Ensures quality specimens by using proper containers, labeling, and accessioning.
- Accesses and evaluates specimen appropriateness and processes samples to preserve integrity.
- Transports samples to correct locations and stores under appropriate conditions.
- Operates systems/methodologies to produce data: performs QA checks, calibrations, and safeguards sample identification.
- Reports clinical data: evaluates data before release, uses computer skills for QA monitors and workflow control.
- Maintains systems: performs maintenance, reviews QC statistics, troubleshoots, manages inventory, and minimizes expenses.
- Demonstrates regulatory knowledge: follows SOPPs, manuals, and regulatory agency guidelines (CAP, JCAHO, Medicare, OSHA, state, FDA, AABB).
- Overviews daily operations: serves as contact to staff and agencies, provides technical guidance, ensures quality procedures, trains staff, and supports improvement programs.
- 3 years in General Clinical Lab.
- Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or equivalent.
- Licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners as a CLS.
