Job Description
Put your HVAC expertise to work ensuring commercial systems are installed correctly, operate safely, and perform as designed. As an HVAC Commissioning Technician, you will support equipment startup, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning while coordinating with project teams, contractors, manufacturers, engineers, and commissioning agents through final turnover.
What You’ll Do
- Support equipment startup and perform functional testing on air-handling units (AHUs), rooftop units (RTUs), dedicated outdoor air systems (DOAS), split systems, heat pumps, exhaust fans, pumps, variable air volume (VAV) boxes, and other HVAC equipment.
- Verify that equipment is installed correctly and ready for startup, including electrical power, controls, piping, ductwork, filters, belts, and safety devices.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, airflow, and controls-related issues.
- Measure and verify operating temperatures, pressures, voltage, amperage, airflow, equipment rotation, and other operating conditions.
- Work with controls contractors to verify sequences of operation, sensors, actuators, safeties, alarms, and building automation system (BAS) performance.
- Coordinate with testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB) contractors to identify and resolve airflow and system performance issues.
- Perform functional performance testing and support third-party commissioning activities.
- Identify installation deficiencies and coordinate corrective work with field personnel.
- Maintain accurate functional testing reports, commissioning documentation, deficiency lists, and other required records.
- Assist with manufacturer startups, owner training, and final system turnover.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of HVAC experience, preferably in commercial or industrial settings. Associates or Technical degree preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC equipment, refrigeration, airflow, electrical components, and controls.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment submittals, electrical and control diagrams, and sequences of operation.
- Proficiency with standard HVAC diagnostic and testing equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to identify and resolve system issues independently.
- Clear communication and strong organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with field personnel, subcontractors, manufacturers, engineers, and commissioning agents.
