The Role As a Senior Residential Care Worker, you will take responsibility for providing strong leadership and direction during shifts while continuing to deliver direct care and support to the young people. Your responsibilities will include:
Taking a lead role on shift and supporting the effective day-to-day running of the home. Providing guidance, support and positive role modelling to other members of the care team. Supporting the Registered Manager with the implementation of policies, procedures and standards. Promoting high standards of safeguarding, care and professional practice. Building positive and professional relationships with young people. Supporting young people with their routines, activities, education, appointments and day-to-day needs.
Maintaining appropriate boundaries and ensuring consistent expectations are followed. Supporting colleagues to follow care plans, risk assessments and agreed strategies. Responding appropriately to incidents, challenging behaviour and safeguarding concerns. Ensuring daily records, handovers and other documentation are completed accurately. Supporting the implementation and review of care plans and risk assessments. Communicating appropriately with families, social workers, education providers and other professionals.
Supporting new and less experienced staff through guidance, coaching and role modelling. Contributing to team meetings, handovers, training and reflective practice. Taking appropriate responsibility for the home and young people during your shift. The successful candidate will be expected to lead by example, maintain professional standards and contribute positively to the overall running of the home. Our Approach The home is currently developing its practice and working towards becoming a more therapeutic and relationship-based environment .
We are currently embedding PACE Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy into the way we work with young people. We recognise that behaviour can communicate underlying needs and experiences. We are therefore looking for someone who can remain calm, consistent and professional when young people are experiencing difficulties. You do not need to have previously worked within a fully therapeutic environment.
We are looking for someone who is open to learning, reflective in their practice and committed to developing their understanding of relationship-based and trauma-informed approaches. As a Senior, you will also have an important role in modelling these principles for other members of the team.
What We Are Looking For We are looking for someone who has:
Previous experience working in residential childcare . Experience working with children and young people who may present with challenging or complex behaviours.
Experience of taking responsibility for a shift or supporting other members of staff. A good understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries. The ability to build appropriate and positive relationships with young people. Confidence in managing incidents and challenging situations. Good written and verbal communication skills.
