Job DescriptionAs part of the development of our Energy & Industrial activities in Switzerland, we are looking for a Senior Turbine Instrumentation & Control Engineer (M/F). Reporting to a technical manager, you will support critical industrial assets operating in a high‑availability environment and contribute to the modernization, reliability improvement and lifecycle management of turbine control and protection systems.
You will act as a technical lead, interfacing with equipment manufacturers, engineering partners, system integrators and operational teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities Turbine Instrumentation & Protection- Assess existing turbine instrumentation and protection systems.
- Analyze critical field devices such as speed, vibration, temperature and pressure sensors.
- Identify reliability risks associated with aging equipment and propose improvement plans.
- Define technical specifications for instrumentation upgrades and replacement solutions.
- Evaluate monitoring strategies, including online condition monitoring and vibration monitoring systems.
- Participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis of critical equipment issues.
- Analyze existing control architectures and legacy automation systems.
- Review turbine control, load regulation and protection functions.
- Map process signals, interlocks and critical operating sequences.
- Support the definition and evaluation of replacement control solutions.
- Challenge technical proposals from suppliers and engineering contractors.
- Ensure consistency between operational requirements, protection philosophies and control strategies.
- Coordinate technical activities with equipment suppliers, integrators and stakeholders.
- Participate in FAT, SAT, loop checks, point‑to‑point tests and commissioning activities.
- Support functional testing of protection systems and critical operating sequences.
- Contribute to risk assessments and technical decision‑making processes.
- Ensure technical documentation is updated and maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
- Produce and review engineering documentation including:
- P&IDs
- Instrument lists
- Datasheets
- Functional specifications
- Test procedures
- Technical reports
- Act as a technical reference within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and asset reliability initiatives.
You hold a degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Automation, Energy Engineering or an equivalent discipline and have significant experience in industrial control and instrumentation environments.
Requirements- Proven experience with turbine instrumentation and protection systems.
- Strong understanding of steam turbines, rotating equipment or critical industrial assets.
- Experience with control and automation systems in industrial environments.
- Knowledge of speed control, load control and turbine protection philosophies.
- Experience with vibration monitoring, condition monitoring and critical instrumentation.
- Ability to analyze existing installations and define modernization strategies.
- Experience preparing technical specifications and evaluating supplier proposals.
- Ability to coordinate technical stakeholders and lead engineering discussions.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving capabilities.
- Comfortable working in industrial field environments and during commissioning phases.
- Experience with power generation, cogeneration, waste‑to‑energy or thermal plants.
- Knowledge of legacy ABB or BBC control systems.
- Experience with retrofit or brownfield modernization projects.
- Exposure to rotating machinery diagnostics and reliability engineering.
- Familiarity with DCS, SCADA and industrial communication systems.
- German and/or Italian language skills.
- Fluent French is required.
- Professional English is mandatory.
- German is considered a strong asset.
- Italian would be appreciated.
