• Assists with safe positioning and transferring of patients.
• Prepares, maintains, and monitors the sterile field and setup.
• Disposes of linens, gloves, and sharps in appropriate containers.
• Transports instruments properly to the decontamination area.
• Checks functionality of equipment and instruments prior to each case.
• Reports broken or malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate personnel.
• Maintains the sterile field until dressings are applied or the patient leaves the room.
• Identifies and reports any break in sterile technique immediately.
• Handles contaminated items safely by placing them in designated disposal containers.
• Replaces and ensures proper functioning of equipment and supplies used intra‑operatively.
• Ensures instrument tray completeness before and after cases; removes instruments from sterile drapes.
• Demonstrates proper care and handling of specialty instruments.
• Establishes and maintains a neutral zone when passing sharps to prevent injury.
• Adheres to PPE protocols; wears proper eye protection when scrubbed.
• Identifies and labels all medications on the back table accurately.
• Inspects sterile packages, trays, and containers for integrity before use.
• Checks case supplies according to the surgeon’s preference list.
• Assists with room turnover and disposal of surgical debris; supports patient safety.
• Demonstrates competency in at least one major service and flexibility to work in others; willing to precept when needed.

• BLS Certification required.
• Surgical Technician Certification by The National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting.
• HS Diploma & Graduate from accredited surgical technologist program required.
• 1 year experience as a surgical technologist strongly preferred or experience within healthcare environment.
