The School Accounting And Controls Leader will oversee the Regional Accounting function and serve as a key leader of the US Shared Services Finance Team.
Responsibilities include:
performance of accounts receivable, accounts payable and general ledger transactions; business partnering for operating plans; driving culture and robust internal controls; providing reliable forecasting; promoting cross‑functional collaboration; and improving financial systems and processes.
- Ensure timely and accurate month‑end and year‑end closing processes.
- Maintain general ledger integrity and ensure accurate classification of accounts.
- Reconcile complex accounts and resolve discrepancies efficiently.
- Collaborate with auditors to support external audit processes.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and notes to the accounts.
- Review journal entries and ensure proper documentation and approval.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance to ensure high performance.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Identify training and development needs and provide opportunities for professional growth.
- Prepare and file all centrally managed statutory accounts.
- Manage team reviewing monthly and quarterly journal entries for all 11 US schools.
- Ensure integrity of business unit (school) statutory accounts.
- Account for any holding or dormant companies.
- Lead opening balance sheet work with new acquisitions.
- Analyze month‑end balance sheet movements and variances to budget/forecast.
- Manage team recording accounts receivable journal entries for 11 schools.
- Oversee the accounts payable process, making payments to suppliers and journal entries for 11 schools.
- Streamline accounts receivable and accounts payable processes to create efficiencies.
- Report on service level agreements to schools.
- Prepare the company annual and interim reports under US GAAP and IFRS, interacting fully with external audit teams.
- Drive compliance with NAE Accounting Policy | DOA, GAAP & IFRS Compliance.
- Ensure accounting policies and procedures compliance within business units.
- Lead compliance of new schools accounting with group accounting policies.
- Work with Group FC to align and standardise financial reports.
- Ensure all reporting deliverables are sent on time and in the correct format for month‑end, actual and quarterly reporting.
- At least 5 years’ experience in a high‑pressured financial environment.
- Technical excellence and gravitas to drive change and thrive under pressure.
- Relevant experience leading a shared‑service accounting function dealing with multi‑jurisdictional and Spanish‑speaking businesses.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in financial management with progressively increasing responsibilities.
