About This Opportunity

This position is responsible for answering the telephone in a courteous manner and directing calls to the appropriate destination; recording accurate and complete messages when necessary; receiving and receipts deliveries and donations; greeting and announcing visitors and clients; providing general information about The Salvation Army's operations and services; performing routine clerical work such as typing and filing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Answer the telephone and transfer calls to the appropriate destination; respond to callers questions and provide accurate information.
  • Record accurate and complete messages; ensure the timely and accurate distribution of messages through telephone and/or e-mail.
  • Record and update statistical information; ensure the accuracy and completeness of the same.
  • Receive, greet, and announce visitors in a courteous and tactful manner; provide assistance to callers and visitors by answering questions and providing instructions and referrals; screen sales representative soliciting to The Salvation Army.
  • Respond to, and assist people requesting social service assistance; assist in registering clients; maintain supply of maps and phone numbers for social services; locate appropriate personnel to assist visitors.
  • Notify proper individuals when visitors or clients have arrived; ensure that visitors and clients have signed in.
  • Sort and distribute mail; ensure all mail reaches appropriate destination; assist with preparing bulk‑mail.
  • Receive and prepare receipts for donations, packages, airline tickets, express mail, and items delivered to the lobby; notify proper individuals of item arrival by telephone and/or e‑mail.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Two years of progressively responsible experience working in a major firm with telephone switchboard responsibilities, or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
