Sr. Library Assistant (H)

University of Miami – Full‑time, Staff, Pay Grade H3.

The UHealth‑University of Miami Health System Calder Library in Miami, Florida is hiring a full‑time Senior Library Assistant to support library operations.

Shift schedule:
Monday – Friday 11:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.; weekends may be required once pre‑pandemic schedule is resumed.

Core Responsibilities:

• Perform routine circulation and customer service duties such as registering patrons, issuing library cards, and checking out books.
• Maintain media materials by cleaning, repairing, and reordering.
• Monitor and check library computer equipment.
• Receive and resolve customer problems and complaints.
• Compile and maintain accurate records and statistics for reporting purposes.
• Verify bibliographic information for library materials and add items to the catalog database.
• Prepare informational materials such as book displays, exhibits, bulletin boards, and flyers.
• Plan and participate in various university outreach activities.
• Provide limited reference and reader's advisory assistance.
• Adhere to university and unit‑level policies, procedures, and safeguard university assets.

Department‑Specific Functions:

• Greet and check library patrons for valid .
• Answer the phone and direct calls accordingly.
• Handle clearance of UM and JMH staff and students upon graduation or departure.
• Assist patrons with computer usernames and passwords, copy/printer/scanning instructions.
• Provide reference support such as checking titles in the online catalog and minimal website assistance.
• Assist patrons in locating library materials.
• Shift library materials to adjust for crowding or accommodate new acquisitions.
• Assist in stack maintenance, shifting, and shelving.
• Perform simple maintenance of copy/printer/scanner machines.
• Clear library materials from tables, study carrels, photocopy machines, etc.
• Carry out other projects and duties as assigned.
• Assist library patrons through the library chat.

CORE

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
• Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
• Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
• Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as required.
• Commitment to the University’s core values.
• Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
• Proficiency in computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office).
