Position SummaryThe Newbuild Procurement team is seeking a Senior Project Buyer to source, analyse, negotiate and contract goods and services for newbuilds, dry docks, in‑service projects and operational maintenance. This role will manage supplier relationships, challenge commercial practices and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and in line with internal procurement guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Procure goods and services for assigned projects such as newbuilds, dry docks, in‑service projects, or operational maintenance.
- Implement a procurement and negotiation strategy based on variables such as price, quality, availability, warranty, project terms and conditions.
- Perform moderate to complex price analysis while considering total project cost, timing and customer needs.
- Prepare, negotiate and execute supplier agreements that meet business requirements.
- Serve as the single point of contact for internal customers, ensuring that products or services are delivered as needed to support successful project completion.
- Lead timely resolution of escalated supplier issues.
- Maintain commercial interface with suppliers.
- Provide guidance to internal customers during budget preparation, such as product and service pricing.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., DNV, IMO, SOLAS, USPH, US Coast Guard).
- Work independently and prioritize tasks based on project schedules.
- Perform other duties as required; this job description does not restrict the employee to these duties only.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or equivalent work experience.
- Emphasis in project management preferred.
- 5‑7 years’ experience in Procurement, Technical, Engineering, Commercial or Project environments.
- Accreditation from a supply chain industry organization (e.g., CPSM, CPIM).
- Experience with multiple systems/tools such as JDE, databases, Microsoft Office, MS Project.
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiating skills.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and multiple internal customers.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural environment.
- Ability to bring teams together to resolve issues and achieve targets and goals.
- Knowledge of strategic sourcing and procurement work processes and solutions.
- Sense of ownership and urgency.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally, up to 20% of the time.
Work may be conducted inside and outside the office, including travel to other offices and shipboard functions. A high noise level is possible when visiting shipboard or offsite locations.
