Chief Estimator

Location: Hybrid position based in Miami, FL. Standard schedule requires working in the office on Mondays and remotely Tuesday‑Friday, with additional in‑office days possible as needed.

Overview

The Chief Estimator plays a critical role in the pre‑construction phase of construction projects. This leadership position involves overseeing the estimation team, managing cost estimates, and collaborating with various departments to ensure accurate and competitive bids. The Chief Estimator is responsible for analyzing project specifications, conducting site visits, and developing detailed cost estimates. The role requires a strong understanding of construction processes, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead a team of estimators.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise a team of estimators, providing guidance, training, and support.
  • Foster a collaborative, high‑performing team culture and allocate resources efficiently to meet project deadlines.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and documents to understand requirements.
  • Conduct site visits to gather relevant information for the estimation process.
  • Identify potential risks and challenges associated with projects.
  • Develop accurate and comprehensive cost estimates, utilizing historical data, industry benchmarks, and market trends.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive quotes.
  • Prepare and submit competitive bids that comply with project specifications.
  • Coordinate with project management and business development teams to finalize bid submissions.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers; negotiate pricing and contracts.
  • Identify cost‑saving opportunities and value engineering options; monitor and control project costs through pre‑construction.
  • Stay current with industry‑specific estimation software and tools; implement technology to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with clients, architects, and stakeholders to understand goals; present cost estimates and proposals professionally.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in estimating or pre‑construction roles.
  • Experience estimating projects larger than $25M.
  • Experience with aviation, data centers, wastewater treatment plants, and commercial projects preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Proven experience as an estimator in the construction industry.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Thorough understanding of construction processes, materials, and methods.
  • Proficiency in construction estimation software and tools.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
