Overview

The Laborer performs a variety of tasks under close supervision of higher-level employees. These tasks may include assisting with extra workload, covering absences and vacations, and supplementing crews to meet unusual changes in the production area or in the weather.

• Control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones.
• Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
• Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials.
• Load, unload, or identify building materials or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans or specifications.
• Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed.
• Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications, using a variety of power and hand tools.
• Tend pumps, compressors, or generators to provide power for tools, machinery, or equipment or to heat or move materials, such as dirt, gravel, and asphalt.
• Cleans tools, equipment, and work areas.

• The employee must be knowledgeable about and follow the company's safety policies and procedures as described in the safety manual.

• Education: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
• Experience and Training: Three to six months related experience in field construction.
