Job Summary (Purpose and Function)The Fellow Instructor is a fully trained general surgeon who is board‑eligible and holds a full medical license in Florida. The Fellow Instructor will spend one full year learning from senior faculty and teaching residents advanced laparoscopic surgery. The role involves teaching, performing surgery in conjunction with residents, and contributing to the educational mission while maintaining a high‑quality resident experience.
Responsibilities- Admission, consultation, evaluation, diagnosis, and non‑surgical treatment of patients with general medical problems.
- Teach and supervise residents, acting as a role model.
- Provide patient education and order or provide counseling as needed.
- Document patient charts accurately and timely.
- Manage emergent situations following established protocols.
- Precept residents and students 1–2 half‑days in the outpatient practice.
- Assist with scheduling and coverage arrangements for house staff.
- Help organize, schedule, and contribute to weekly Grand Rounds and Core conferences.
- Assist the Program Director and GME office with resident participation in the Graduate Medical Education Committee.
- Prepare residents for ACGME reviews and participation in educational activities.
- Participate in resolving resident concerns and program improvements.
- Additional duties as required to fulfill the educational mission.
- M.D. or D.O. degree.
- Successful completion of an ACGME‑accredited General Surgery Residency Program.
- State of Florida medical licensure.
- DEA certification.
