Overview
Florida International University (FIU) Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine seeks applicants for part-time or full-time, non-tenure, open rank Basic Science Teaching Faculty (assistant, associate, or full professor) positions. Selected candidates will collaborate with Strand Leaders, Discipline Leads, Unit Directors, Course Directors, and the Office of Medical Education to design and implement curricular content in a dynamic learning environment, manage teaching faculty and promote collaboration, identify content gaps and redundancies, and incorporate effective learning and assessment formats.
The teaching will cover basic science courses and the basic science components of clinical courses as per personal expertise and curriculum needs (predominantly MD Program but may include participation in other FIU programs).
- Teach in basic science courses and the basic science components of clinical courses according to expertise and curricular needs.
- Serve as Unit and/or Course Director for Foundations and Organ Systems courses and teach in other courses as required by curricular need.
- Collaborate with Strand Leaders, Discipline Leads, Unit Directors, Course Directors, and the Office of Medical Education to design and implement curricular content, identify gaps, and promote effective learning and assessment formats.
- Possibly participate in other FIU programs (e.g., Master in Physician Assistant Studies, Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences, Graduate Certificate) as needed.
- Demonstrate teaching excellence in medical education and support a socially accountable educational mission.
- Terminal doctoral degree (MD/DO, Pharm
D, or PhD) in basic science disciplines such as Biomedical Sciences, Physiology, or related fields.
- Ability to teach additional foundational sciences disciplines.
- Experience with technology-enabled and active-learning instruction.
- Two to three years of relevant teaching experience in medical education, and/or prior experience as a Course Director.
