Position: Federal Work Study- Peer Tutor

The College Work-Study Program provides jobs for students with financial need. This program is a subsidized student employment program designed to assist students in financing their post-secondary education. Students can earn money according to the hours worked to help pay their educational expenses. Employment opportunities exist on campus and vary depending on the hiring department.

To be eligible forWork-Study, students must document financial need every year by completing the Free Application for Federal

Student Aid (FAFSA). Work-studyis a need-based award and cannot be awarded to a student if the award combined with other resources would exceed the student's need. Students are awarded funds based on their financial need but are only paid for hours worked. Any unearned funds at the end of the program term are forfeited.

Students applying forwork-study positions are not guaranteed a position.

Work-study positions are based on department needs and the availability of funds. Work-stud yearnings are not paid in advance so they cannot be used to pay the direct costs (tuition, books, etc.) of the semester they are awarded.

Location:

Glenn Hubert Student Learning Center, 2 nd Floor of the St. Thomas University’s Main Library

Hours:

Monday – Friday, 9:00am to 6:00pm (7-12 hours per week)

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized and group tutoring sessions
  • Assist students in understanding course concepts, reviewing materials, and developing academic skills
  • Accurately track and manage student records related to tutoring visits
  • Promote tutoring services by representing the center at campus events
  • Create and maintain a consistent tutoring schedule
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student information, materials, and discussions
  • Complete tutor training and participate in professional development
  • Model academic integrity and set appropriate boundaries with students
  • Support Glenn Hubert Student Learning Center operations as needed

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree program
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50
  • Be available to work between 7-12 hours per week (between 9am and 6pm, Monday to Friday)
  • Must be able to assist in specific academic subject areas as determined by the tutoring center
  • Tutoring schedule will be determined based on tutoring center needs

  • Ability to tutor a wide range of subjects within area of specialty
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to help students develop effective study and learning strategies
  • Ability to learn, interpret, and apply organizational policies
  • Reliable, punctual, approachable, and team-oriented
  • Ability to work independently and work with minimal supervision
