Each year thousands of students travel with MLA as part of our short‑term English as a Second Language (ESL) programs. Along with our proprietary task‑based ESL curriculum, we also provide our students with great excursions featuring some of the most popular historical and tourist destinations across the globe.

MLA staff working with young learners will all go through our safer recruitment process including online or face‑to‑face interviews, record checks of references and background checks, in line with the country’s regulations, to ensure they are able to work with young people, provide evidence of qualifications and work experience as part of the process and according to our Safeguarding Policy.

- Must have right to work in the US and the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check is required; the completion of a satisfactory child abuse clearance may also be required.
- Proven suitability to work with students under 18: at least 2 references.
- Maintain organization of classes and students.
- Utilize and supplement the program curriculum to facilitate task/project‑based learning.
- Effectively use company software for student attendance and lesson tracking.
- Be pleasant, polite, and cooperative with fellow employees, vendors, and guests.
- ESL Summer School Teaching experience in the US.
- First Aid Qualification.
- Ability to develop positive relationships with students, earning their trust whilst maintaining proper professional boundaries.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal).
- Self‑motivated and passionate about teaching.
- Ability to maintain organization of classes, students, and curriculum.
- Ability to use and supplement program curriculum to facilitate excursion‑based learning.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to be pleasant, polite, and cooperative with fellow employees, group leaders, service providers and guests.
- Represent MLA values and model those values to colleagues and students.

The MLA instructor is a part‑time, seasonal position (early July through early August) with MLA Move Language Ahead. Working under the direct supervision of the Director of Studies, instructors deliver one of five levels of the MLA ESL curriculum to international high school students attending a two‑week or three‑week cultural immersion program.
Instructors use MLA‑published curriculum and student eBooks (TASKtime), with accompanying lesson plans provided. They may also supplement the curriculum with materials related to the topic, program location, or general American culture.

Schedule:
- Morning lessons: 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
- Afternoon lessons: 1:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Classes are taught Monday through Saturday in 90‑minute sections, totaling 30 paid instruction hours in a traditional two‑week program. Each lesson includes one unpaid 15‑minute break.
Instructors are not required to participate in excursions outside their assigned duties and must be available to teach both morning and afternoon lessons.
