Position Summary
Our company is hiring for an Early Childhood Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide a safe and nurturing environment that encourages children's social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. In collaboration with the Demonstration School director and lead teacher, the teacher will design and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum following the guidelines established by UWM and NAEYC.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teacher/Child Interactions:
- Provide experiences that build on children's prior experiences, curiosity, and encourage questions, theories, and hypotheses.
- Model and encourage appropriate behavior and expectations.
- Be attentive, flexible, supportive of children and families.
- Practice positive discipline techniques.
- Help children build vocabulary through follow-up questions for deeper understanding.
- Program:
- Design and implement a reflective curriculum, materials, and experiences in collaboration with Master Teachers.
- Observe, document, and manage data collection on each child's development.
- Use observations to plan for individual and group needs.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse backgrounds.
- Create a classroom environment that supports social learning and constructive play.
- Analyze and interpret learning processes, sharing insights with colleagues and children.
- Follow Head Start performance standards and the Educare model.
- Clarify goals of IEPs or IFSPs when working with children who have plans.
- Serve as a mentor for other teachers.
- Follow a reflective planning cycle: observe, document, reflect, discuss, plan, implement, and partner with families.
- Faculty/Parent Interactions:
- Respond to parents and visitors professionally and courteously.
- Communicate daily with families through conferences, events, and meetings.
- Share resources and conduct home visits in collaboration with Family Engagement Staff.
- Discuss child's development and progress during visits and conferences.
- Maintain confidentiality and engage parents in ongoing communication.
- Use of Data:
- Utilize data to individualize instruction and create action plans.
- Engage parents with development screenings and assessments, providing activities based on results.
- Review screening scores and assessments to inform planning.
- Develop plans to support areas of strength, typical development, or need.
- Leadership:
- Guide the team in developing classroom goals and action plans.
- Ensure responsibilities are completed and shared.
- Implement reflective supervision practices within the team.
- Health/Safety/Nutrition:
- Supervise children, adhering to safety and health rules.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and accessible environment.
- Ensure proper maintenance of equipment and materials.
- Complete incident and accident reports as needed.
- Professionalism:
- Stay informed about trends and research in early childhood education.
- Demonstrate flexibility and ongoing professional growth.
- Attend meetings and trainings punctually.
- Protect confidentiality of children and families.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Teamwork:
- Maintain cooperation, respect, and confidentiality.
- Participate in classroom and center events.
- Communicate and collaborate openly.
- Decision-Making Authority:
- Take necessary actions, informing supervisors when caring for children with injuries, concerns, or incidents.
- Physical Demands:
- Follow guidelines, demonstrate full range of motion, lift up to 40 pounds, supervise outdoors, respond to emergencies, and maintain alertness.
- Bilingual ability is preferred.
- Technology Requirements:
- Be familiar with modern technology and adaptable to new systems.
- Other Skills:
- Flexibility, understanding of educational concepts like Visible Thinking, Multiple Intelligences, Dual Language, Inclusion, Early Literacy, and Reflective Supervision.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or related fields, covering child development and learning from birth through kindergarten, family and community relationships, and assessment skills.
- Infant/Toddler CDA credential, with 45 CDA hours and 15 in-service hours annually.
