The Health Educator II is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating health education programs and curriculum. Conducts presentations and workshops for the university community. Conducts one-on-one consultations. Collects, analyzes, and reports on utilization data. Additionally, the Health Educator II serves as the Peer Educator (PE) Coordinator, recruiting and supervising HLP Peer Educators. Develops, implements, and evaluates evidence-based strategies to enhance the HLP peer education program.
Assesses peer education and health promotion best practices to regularly evaluate programs/events to determine outcomes and impact.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates outreach programs to address the needs of the student population through outreach initiatives, including presentations/workshops, events, and educational campaigns on a variety of health/wellness topics impacting university students. Works closely with Health Educators, other team members, and university partners on cross-collaborative initiatives.
- Monitors, collects, and reports student utilization and health-related data through needs assessments and surveys, and provides analytical recommendations for program enhancements and development. Completes departmental reports such as activity reports, debriefs, monthly reports, semester, and annual reports.
- Utilizes motivational interviewing techniques and other evidence-based intervention methods to assist students in health-related behavior change, in both one-on-one and group consultations, on a variety of health topics including stress management, time management, sexual health, sleep hygiene, nutrition, and alcohol/substance use. Documents consultations in the electronic medical record (EMR) system. Develops and implements other health consultations as appropriate to address changing wellness needs of the student body.
- Collaborates with the SHW Marketing team to develop digital marketing content relevant to the health/wellness needs of the student population and HLP outreach efforts. Submits graphic requests in accordance with SHW Marketing regulations.
- Participates in campus-wide activities and committees on behalf of HLP and SHW as assigned.
- Manages HLP inventory tracking systems and monitors product levels to anticipate inventory shortage. Submits expense requests as appropriate.
- Manages material and outreach requests. Assigns requests as appropriate.
- Serves as student assistant and peer educator coordinator, developing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based strategies to enhance the HLP peer education program. Evaluates programs/events to determine outcomes and impact.
- Recruits, trains, and supervises student assistants, peer educators, interns, and volunteers. Onboards new team members and updates onboarding processes as needed. Manages the daily tasks, schedules, and outreach activities of student team members.
- Coordinates and facilitates recurring meetings and professional development opportunities.
- Remains informed of best practices in health promotion and peer education. Uses knowledge to make recommendations for program enhancements.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Bachelor's degree in a Health Education, Public Health or a related field and two (2) years of related experience, OR a Master's degree in a Health Education, Public Health, or a related field.
Desired Qualifications- Experience facilitating individual or group discussions about sensitive topics.
- Experience conducting health education/promotion programs in a university setting.
- Leadership experience.
- Certified Heath Education Specialist (CHES).
