Overview
WSP USA is seeking a Lead Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering to join our National Maritime Practice Group
. This position can be based out of the following offices:
Irvine, San Francisco, San Diego-CA, Miami-FL, Portland-OR, Seattle-WA, Houston-TX, or Tampa-FL.
This opportunity provides engineering support and leadership to technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the development, design, construction, and/or inspection of structures and facilities for port, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects in the public and private sector. Facilities may include piers, wharves, port and upland marine terminals, seawalls/bulkheads, dry docks, marinas and other nearshore/offshore facilities. Delivers work products that meet or exceed industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
YourImpact
- Provide leadership for engineering tasks including collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and other data matrices for project development, design, and construction.
- Lead development of construction plans and schedules, specifications, and cost estimates for ports and marine projects. Prepare and implement site safety activity plans and coordinate field work activities.
- Manage cross-functional teams to execute project work on mid-level projects and/or multiple smaller projects. Collaborate with other engineers and multi-disciplinary teams on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded projects. Track budgets and milestone progress and support completion of Plans, Specifications and Estimate (PS&E) submissions.
- Write technical reports and documentation of findings using sketches, calculations, spreadsheets, technical drawings, and engineering software (including SAP
2000 and similar FEM tools). - Lead staff engineers in applying advanced engineering techniques to develop project design requirements, incorporating marine-practice standards and specifications. Identify site, design, and construction risks and provide mitigation solutions.
- Provide high-level technical assistance on advanced structural analyses for fixed and floating marine structures, and on components for deep foundations and substructure/superstructure elements.
- Prepare and monitor project task budgets, staffing, and schedules.
- Prepare and give presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to internal teams and clients.
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally.
- Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies, exercise ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources.
- Complete assigned trainings and perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program;
Registered Professional Engineer license (multi-state preferred) - 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in marine-related design, including rehabilitation and new designs
- Proficiency in analysis and design of marine projects, including SAP
2000 or equivalent FEM tools; design and detailing of reinforced and prestressed concrete and steel components per ACI, AISC, PCI, and/or AASHTO - Experience with AutoCAD and REVIT and other BIM tools
- Construction experience in ports and marine projects
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and preparing design/construction documents in line with domestic/international standards
- Strong communication and technical report-writing skills
- Self-leadership with attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and work independently or in a team
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, and harassment policies
- Occasional travel may be required; ability to work hours as project needs
- Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program; 10+ years of post-education design experience in ports and marine structures
- Familiarity with domestic/international marine terminal codes (e.g., MOTEMS, ASCE COPRI, PIANC) and DoD criteria (UFC, UFGC)
- Experience with LSDYNA or related software
