Overview

The Power Generation team is experiencing growth, and HDR is seeking a qualified Senior Mechanical Engineer to help our clients develop, contract, and implement natural gas and potentially renewable energy generation projects, serving as Engineer of Record or Owner’s Engineer. Opportunities are available in multiple locations across the United States.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the project mechanical team and coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
  • Monitor and communicate project status; provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on technical and contractual levels.
  • Develop deliverables such as construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates.
  • Apply experience with power generation systems for simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE projects.
  • Adapt project roles based on project size and engineer capabilities, often acting as lead mechanical engineer and project engineering manager, and potentially project manager.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design.
  • Gas turbine, steam turbine and/or large reciprocating engine experience or subject matter expertise.
  • Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation.
  • Experience with engineering power consulting or EPC firms is preferred.
  • Experience in fossil power industry with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projects.
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments; excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Willing to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs; capable of working within established schedules and budgets.
  • Travel of less than 10% for client meetings and site visits.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or P.Eng.
  • Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, Revit).
