Overview

Lead Consultant, Ports and Marine Civil/Structural Engineering is a WSP USA opportunity in the National Maritime Practice Group. This position can be based in Irvine, San Francisco, San Diego (CA), Miami (FL), Portland (OR), Seattle (WA), Houston (TX), or Tampa (FL).

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership for engineering tasks by collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and other data matrices for project development, design, and construction.
  • Lead development of construction plans and schedules, specifications, and cost estimates for ports and marine projects. Prepare and implement site safety activity plans and coordinate field work activities.
  • Manage cross-functional teams to execute project work on mid-level projects and/or multiple smaller projects. Collaborate with other engineers and multidisciplinary teams on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects. Track budgets and progress of milestone activities; support the completion of Plans, Specifications and Estimate (PS&E) submissions.
  • Write technical reports and document findings using sketches, calculations, spreadsheets, technical drawings, and engineering software (including SAP
    2000 and similar FEM tools).
  • Lead staff engineers in applying advanced engineering techniques to develop project design requirements, incorporating marine-practice engineering standards and specifications. Identify site, design, and construction risks and provide mitigation solutions.
  • Provide high-level technical assistance on: advanced finite element models for fixed and floating marine structures; miscellaneous steel and concrete components for deep foundation systems and sub/superstructure elements.
  • Prepare and monitor project task budgets, staffing, and schedules. Present findings and recommendations to internal teams and clients.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally and confidently. Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies; complete assigned trainings.
  • Travel may be required depending on project requirements and schedules may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program;
    Registered Professional Engineer licensure (multi-state preferred).
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant marine project design experience, including rehabilitation and new design.
  • Proficiency in analysis and design of marine projects, including SAP
    2000 or equivalent FEM software; design and detailing of reinforced and prestressed concrete and steel per ACI, AISC, PCI, and/or AASHTO.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and REVIT and other BIM tools.
  • Construction experience in ports and marine projects; ability to coordinate multidisciplinary design and construction with domestic/international standards.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and technical report writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; detail-oriented with multi-tasking and prioritization abilities.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company policies. Occasional travel as required.
Preferred
  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program with 10+ years of post-education design experience in ports and marine structures.
  • Experience with domestic and international marine codes (e.g., MOTEMS, ASCE COPRI, PIANC) and DoD criteria (UFC, UFGC).
  • Experience with LSDYNA or related software; active participation in professional practice organizations.
  • Experience with marine, port, and coastal construction laws, codes, regulations, and compliance practices; field investigation or construction support experience.
  • Additional qualifications for candidates with a commercial dive license (ADCI or DCBC).
Compensation and Benefits

Compensation:
Expected salary range $90,000–$140,000 (location-based). WSP provides a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, retirement savings, paid time off, parental leave, and other leave provisions.
