Role Description
Arcadis, the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets, is looking for a passionate and driven Energy & Decarbonization Consultant to join our U.S.
-based Asset Advisory team. In this senior consultant role, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and leverage our industrial client network to design and implement actionable energy and decarbonization strategies that help energy-consuming organizations unlock value on their journey towards net zero.
As a Senior Consultant, you’ll lead projects and provide technical expertise to create solutions that balance technical feasibility, economic outcomes, and environmental goals. Your work will involve analyzing processes, equipment, and site‑specific challenges—including permitting requirements, grid capacity, and market constraints—to deliver energy-saving and decarbonization technologies across sectors such as life sciences, food and beverage, mining, and more. You will provide insights into energy consumption reduction, fossil fuel replacement, and integration of innovative, energy-efficient technologies.
RoleAccountabilities
- Lead the creation of site‑specific decarbonization strategies and solutions, working closely with clients to identify opportunities that align with corporate KPIs and outline actionable pathways toward net zero.
- Collaborate with design teams to request, process, and analyze key site energy and process information before conducting site visits.
- Lead detailed on‑site assessments of energy, utility, and process systems.
- Develop energy‑saving solutions in collaboration with cross‑functional engineering and sales teams across process, thermal, cooling, compressed air, and water systems.
- Identify local market opportunities by collaborating with permitting, grants, and incentives teams, incorporating CAPEX/OPEX rebates into transition planning.
- Perform economic and carbon impact analyses, prepare CAPEX estimates, and develop cost‑benefit models such as marginal abatement cost curves and total cost of ownership assessments.
- Develop and present site‑specific net‑zero/decarbonization roadmaps, ensuring actionable and impactful recommendations.
- Contribute to business development initiatives, collaborating with global engineering teams to support new project proposals.
- Work with global ecosystem partners to grow the industrial decarbonization proposition and stay informed on market needs.
- Build strong client relationships through effective communication, identifying opportunities for additional services to generate new business.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science (e.g., Energy, Mechanical, or Process Engineering) or an equivalent qualification. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- At least 5 years of proven experience in energy assessments for large energy‑consuming sites; at least 7 years in energy engineering or consultancy roles within the industrial sector.
- Working knowledge of steam & hot water, refrigeration & cooling, compressed air, industrial heat pumps, carbon capture and storage, and other renewable energy technologies.
- Demonstrated success in client engagement and business development, including proposal writing and acquisition strategies.
- Exceptional ability to distill complex data into clear, concise language for diverse audiences, with proven collaboration across geographies and cultures.
- A strong self‑starter with excellent consultancy skills and an engineering background.
- Experience in a hybrid work environment based in one of Arcadis’ U.S. offices, such as Washington, D.C.

SalarySalary range: $130,000 - $175,000. Actual salaries vary based on experience, education, budget, internal equity, project, and location.
