Senior Construction Materials Practice Team Lead – WSP, Miami, FL, USA

Join WSP’s construction materials practice as a senior team lead, managing the South Florida construction materials inspection, testing, and laboratory group and collaborating with geotechnical practice area leads across Florida and the southeastern U.S. This role offers excellent career growth, a friendly and flexible work environment, and a variety of challenging projects.

Work Location

Primary office:
Miami, FL. Requires travel within Central and South Florida; occasional travel to North Florida and the southeastern U.S.

Your Impact
  • Lead an established project team in successfully completing projects related to construction management, quality management, special inspections, materials testing, and laboratory testing across construction materials and geotechnical applications.
  • Responsible for laboratory accreditations (FDOT, USACE, AMRL/CCRL), preparing for lab audits, maintaining quality control, and ensuring timely execution of lab tests.
  • Maintain the FDOT certification program for field and laboratory staff.
  • Lead and support business development and strategic planning to increase market share in priority markets.
  • Develop and enhance key client relationships and serve as the primary company contact on projects.
  • Coordinate with clients to define work programs and budgets, providing leadership and strategy including general oversight and planning, and project management.
  • Manage and coordinate project teams, ensuring the technical quality of deliverables.
  • Support financial, project management, backlog and utilization reporting requirements for the Central/South FL Operation.
  • Full managerial responsibility for all aspects of a project, including safety, scope development, contract negotiations, cost control, staff management, quality control, and cash management.
  • Recruit, hire, and direct project staffing assignments to meet client, contract, and company business objectives.
  • Support staff development through mentoring.
  • Make quick decisions requiring sound judgment and experience.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients confidently and professionally.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Collaborate with national materials practitioners.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science (Master’s in Geotechnical or Materials Engineering strongly preferred).
  • 10+ years of related experience leading teams, managing projects, and sound knowledge of laboratory tests, field testing, special inspections, construction materials and geotechnical services.
  • Licensed Florida Professional Engineer required.
  • Experience with laboratory testing, including concrete, soils aggregate, and asphalt.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi‑task.
  • Strong industry reputation and knowledge of the South and Central Florida market.
  • Positive experience dealing directly with client representatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships and experience in proposal preparation.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work on project teams.
  • Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to both engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
  • Highly capable self‑leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Developed critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to apply technical knowledge and reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis, and effective solutions.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
