Lead Consultant - Commissioning
WSP USA is seeking a full‑time Lead Consultant to support technical staff, engineers, and project managers in validating construction, integrity, operability, and commissioning of building systems and facilities projects in the public and private sector. The position may be located in Orlando, FL or other locations.
Responsibilities- Provide guidance with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site during various construction phases.
- Conduct professional building and system commissioning work by researching and inspecting proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, and systems.
- Develop and oversee configuration, testing specifications, and readiness plans; prepare and update checklists, punch lists, and cost estimates requiring coordination with owners, sub‑consultants, and clients.
- Engage from project inception to completion for commissioning work deliverables throughout all project phases.
- Incorporate advanced technologies, monitoring, modeling techniques, and operating strategies to ensure proper installation and functioning of building systems.
- Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on commissioning and retro‑commissioning of HVAC, steam, compressed air, chilled water, plumbing, and automation.
- Oversee and monitor cross‑functional teams to execute project work while managing budgets, tracking hours, expenses, and technical calculations.
- Coordinate, review, and approve commissioning and operational plans, ensuring data integrity and compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.
- Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, and technical drawings for interpretation and presentation of complex data.
- Maintain quality control standards, document logs of testing and verification, and procedures for accurate measurements and reporting.
- Assist with development and scoping of medium‑to‑large commissioning projects.
- Provide guidance and training to entry‑level to mid‑level commissioning staff.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations explaining research findings and recommendations.
- Analyze, evaluate, and interpret data obtained during site assessments to develop action plans for risk mitigation.
- Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally.
- Collaborate with other professionals on building improvement and development projects, as well as proposal opportunities.
- Stay current in commisioning techniques and practices.
- Exercise responsible decision‑making regarding company resources and conduct, abiding by WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline or equivalent industry experience.
- 7–10 years of post‑education experience in building and systems commissioning.
- Proficiency with commissioning principles, practices, process, and design/build application.
- Extensive knowledge of smart building design.
- Experience with planning, design, and installation management of renovation and new design projects.
- Knowledge of relevant building technology, codes, and compliance practices.
- Ability to conduct technical computations, testing, and validation.
- Strong inspection and investigative skills on equipment, facilities, and systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences.
- High self‑leadership, detail orientation, multitasking, and prioritization.
- Independent work ability with minimal oversight and leadership of junior team members.
- Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, load calculations, AutoCAD, Revit, and spreadsheets.
- Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills applied to testing results and statistical analysis.
- Experience coordinating subcontractors to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety and harassment policies.
- Willingness to work project schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Master’s Degree is preferred.
- Professional licensure or certification.
- Interest in obtaining LEED certification.
- Membership or active participation in local professional organizations.

CompensationExpected Salary (all locations): $103,000 – $145,000
