Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive waste management plans and procedures to minimize waste generation, maximize recycling and reuse opportunities, and ensure compliance with international maritime regulations and environmental standards.
  • Coordinate the collection, segregation, and disposal of waste streams generated onboard the cruise ship, including solid waste, hazardous materials, sewage, and greywater.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of waste management facilities and equipment to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure proper operation and maintenance.
  • Provide training and guidance to crew members on waste handling procedures, environmental regulations, and best practices for waste reduction and recycling.
  • Monitor waste generation trends and analyze data to identify areas for optimization and efficiency gains, such as waste reduction initiatives, waste-to-energy programs, and composting systems.
  • Liaise with port authorities, waste disposal contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with waste disposal regulations and facilitate the proper handling and disposal of waste during port visits.
  • Collaborate with onboard departments, including housekeeping, food and beverage, and engineering, to implement waste reduction strategies and promote environmental awareness among crew and guests.
  • Prepare and submit reports on waste management activities, environmental performance metrics, and compliance status to company management and regulatory agencies as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Marine Biology, or a related field;
    Masters degree preferred.
  • Years of experience in waste management, environmental compliance, or maritime operations, preferably in the cruise or hospitality industry.
  • Familiarity with international maritime regulations and environmental standards, such as MARPOL Annex V, Annex VI, and SOLAS.
  • Strong knowledge of waste management principles, practices, and technologies, including recycling, composting, waste-to-energy, and hazardous waste management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and engage crew members at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multicultural environment, with a strong commitment to teamwork and customer service.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications for data analysis and reporting.
  • Certification in waste management, environmental auditing, or related fields is a plus.
