Overview

Mas Tec Civil is hiring an Estimator to assist in the growth of the Florida market. The candidate should have a minimum of 3 years of estimating experience and at least 2 years of field experience in Heavy Civil Construction, specifically with roadways and bridges. Knowledge of contract delivery methods—including design-build, design-bid-build, and lump-sum—and experience with FLDOT/tollways, cities, counties, and airport authorities is required.

The role demands a self‑motivated individual willing to collaborate with peers, teach junior engineers, and continually seek solutions to problems. The position is based in our Miami office.

Mas Tec’s Clean Energy & Infrastructure Group (CE&I) is a $4 billion annual revenue unit providing construction services for industrial facilities, power generation, manufacturing plants, solar, wind, and thermal energy plants, buildings, and infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Understand bid items, basis of estimate, identify errors and discrepancies in plans and specifications, and propose solutions.
  • Read plans, specifications, RFPs, RFIs, addenda, technical special provisions, etc., with wide understanding.
  • Build a green‑sheet estimate, break down activity structure, develop construction schedule, and conduct risk‑matrix analysis.
  • Create job budgets for awarded contracts.
  • Understand bid strategy, cost savings initiatives, and management skills.
  • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs within the required time frame.
  • Establish the ability to estimate an entire job independently.
  • Study and review estimating reports, including equipment and labor hours, key indicators, equipment balance analysis, etc.
  • Continuously review updated FDOT standards and specifications.
  • Fully review the bid submittal package and lead estimating discussions with company executives.
  • Obtain clarifications on plans and specifications from owners or engineers of record.
  • Coordinate and invite suppliers and subcontractors to quote various scopes of work.
  • Analyze supplier and subcontractor pricing inputs when required.
  • Build and strengthen subcontractor and supplier relationships.
  • Complete understanding of unit cost analysis.
  • Assist in pre‑bid meetings and bid submittals.
  • Keep updated information regarding commodity trade prices.
  • Explore construction technologies and techniques.
  • Maintain continuous education in construction: attend engineering conventions, forums, etc.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with field personnel (project engineers, superintendents, foremen, fleet managers, etc.) to track and adjust unit costs as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Heavy Civil.
  • Must be working in the Miami company office.
  • B.S. in Engineering or Construction Management degree.
  • Possess high work values, integrity, and ethical standards.
  • Possess strong focus to meet and exceed company requirements and expectations.
  • Excellent organization, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of bridge and roadway construction.
  • Savvy in Florida soil (rock/clay), foundations, concrete structures, temporary structural systems, underground and utility work, earthwork, signalization, roadway lighting and signing, intelligent transportation systems, safety standards, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in design‑build and design‑bid‑build contracts with FDOT and Turnpike Enterprises.
  • Teaching and mentoring abilities.

  • 30‑hour OSHA training.
  • Microsoft Office:
