About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned VP, Lead Underwriter to lead the financial and risk evaluation of complex commercial lending transactions. This role is ideal for a sharp, detail-oriented professional who thrives in analyzing commercial real estate (CRE), commercial & industrial (C&I), and asset-based lending (ABL) portfolios with sound judgment and in-depth financial knowledge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite new and existing CRE, C&I, ABL, and other specialized lending transactions.
  • Conduct detailed cash flow analysis (real estate and global), evaluate borrower and guarantor financial condition, and assess repayment capacity.
  • Analyze operating performance, industry trends, financial projections, and global cash flow as part of credit risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with loan officers and other departments to gather required documentation and data for underwriting.
  • Ensure full compliance with internal credit policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain thorough, accurate underwriting packages and credit memoranda.
  • Support the ongoing development of underwriting processes and internal credit quality standards.
  • Complete assigned annual training programs and stay current with industry trends.
  • Perform other underwriting and credit-related duties as required.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Credit Underwriter in banking, with a strong background in C&I, CRE, ABL, SBA, and construction lending.
  • Advanced understanding of credit policies, underwriting practices, and loan structures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and financial spreadsheet software.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to interact across all organizational levels.
  • High attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of federal and state banking regulations related to commercial lending.
  • Strong customer service mindset with both internal and external stakeholders.
