Job Summary

The Financial Analyst compiles and analyzes financial information for the assigned division(s)/department(s) in an efficient and accurate manner. Moreover, the incumbent assists management in the decision‑making process and strategic planning by presenting relevant financial reports in a clear, concise, and timely manner.

Core Job Functions
  • Prepares and coordinates documentation of financial analysis projects such as budgets, forecasts, projections, expense performance, and presentations.
  • Identifies trends and developments in competitive environments and presents findings.
  • Provides analytical support for forward‑looking financial or business‑related projects.
  • Performs financial forecasting and reconciliation of accounts.
  • Designs and builds various models that summarize several different scenarios around growth and expansion initiatives or opportunities.
  • Develops and maintains performance and productivity dashboards, models or analyses.
  • Collects, interprets and analyzes relevant data or metrics.
  • May develop and maintain reports to support plans, business decisions, operational changes, strategic plans and new services. Resolves any reporting issues.
  • Makes recommendations to align policies and procedures with best practices and capitalize on financial opportunities.
  • Adheres to University and unit‑level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Core Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

Experience: Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles.
  • Knowledge of budget control methods, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to prepare financial and accounting records.
  • Ability to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data.
  • Ability to compile, organize, interpret, and communicate accounting data and results concisely.
  • Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget.
Department Specific Functions
  • Prepares financial schedules of gifts, commitments, and other support for review and analysis.
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of monthly financial variance reports.
  • Update and maintain each investigator’s commitment summary and total support schedule with the current budget, actual expenses incurred for the year that just ended/closed, and certify historical data is accurate.
  • Provides key financial support and analysis for ad‑hoc requests from faculty and leadership.
  • Assist the Finance team in monitoring accounts and ensure operational spending and personnel is within compliance of budget.
  • Trains staff members to ensure accuracy and efficiency in end work product.
  • Assist the Associate Director of Finance with the entry of the Centers budget in Tidemark, including all personnel, operations, capital equipment, transfers and revenues while meeting University guidelines and deadlines.
  • Advises staff regarding the handling of non‑routine reporting transactions.
  • Participate in professional development activities to keep current with University established policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and organize Ad‑Hoc reports requested by SCCC and MSOM Leadership.
  • Work closely with the Associate Director of Finance on the year‑end closing process including preparation of accruals and journal entries to ensure proper closing of all accounts.
  • Assist the Associate Director and Director of Finance with special projects.
