We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller to oversee the firm’s accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence within a fast-paced investment advisory environment. The Controller will work closely with senior leadership and serve as a trusted financial partner to the firm.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations including GL, AP, AR, payroll, and month-end close
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Ensure timely and accurate close processes, reconciliations, and variance analyses
- Support regulatory reporting requirements applicable to investment advisory firms
- Coordinate with compliance and external auditors during annual audits and examinations
- Maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies
- Assist with annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes
- Monitor firm expenses, profitability, and cash flow
- Provide financial insights and reporting to senior management
- Act as primary liaison with external auditors and tax advisors
- Prepare audit schedules and support year-end audit processes
- Coordinate corporate tax filings and related schedules
- Evaluate and improve accounting processes, controls, and systems
- Assist with accounting system upgrades or implementations
- Ensure scalability of accounting operations as the firm grows
- Manage and mentor accounting staff (if applicable)
- Partner cross-functionally with operations, compliance, and executive leadership
- Support strategic initiatives and ad-hoc financial projects
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
- CPA designation strongly preferred
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within:
- Investment advisory firms
- Asset management
- Private equity / hedge funds
- Financial services organizations
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience working with auditors and regulatory environments
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with accounting software and reporting tools
