Summary
The Counselor is responsible for direct client care, the implementation of evidence-based readiness and transition programming services for a caseload of participants. Accordingly, it assesses and identifies clinical issues and creates clear objectives and goals. It also tracks and documents participant progress in case reports while working to meet all required internal and external contract standards and policies.
- The Counselor completes comprehensive assessment of inmates’ substance abuse history and treatment requirements and develops individualized treatment plan. Document all assessment and treatment planning.
- Presents individual counseling/group lectures and didactic presentations weekly based on the areas of Relapse Prevention, Anger Management, Parenting skills, Life Skills, Criminal & Addictive Behaviors, and Co-occurring disorders.
- The Counselor facilitates psycho-educational/behavior modification groups using principles of the “What Works” system. Documents participants’ attendance, participation and progress in Company database.
- Conducts risk/need assessments and creates individual treatment plans for each assigned participant. Meets regularly with participants and documents participants’ progress or regress in Company database (when available.
- The Counselor maintains accurate clinical documentation including intake summaries, group notes, discharge summaries, treatment plans and updates. Updates therapeutic logs in a timely manner. Enters pertinent information into Company database (when available).
- Ensures that participants’ records are accurately completed in a timely manner.
- The Counselor identifies problem areas that may impact participants’ ability to successfully complete treatment. Guides participants to develop strategies to overcome obstacles to success completion of treatment.
- May advise Customer of participants’ progress regularly or at completion of treatment.
- The Counselor may maintain a specific substance abuse treatment case file for every program participant.
- Utilizes crisis intervention techniques if an emergency arises.
- The Counselor utilizes conflict resolution strategies.
- May perform other duties, as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in human services, Counseling, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or related field (Master’s Degree preferred.)
