The Ophthalmic Technician 1 (OT1) is competent in the theory, principles, and practice of eye care. The position performs appropriate clinical testing in compliance with department standards and documents in the EMR system.
** CORE
JOB FUNCTIONS:
*** Performs and documents the following items in the electronic medical record.
* Reason for visit
* Tangent screen visual fields
* Chief complaint
* Basic ocular motility
* History of present illness
* Pupillary evaluation
* Basic review of systems
* Ocular surface assessment
* Review systemic and ocular medications
* Eye drop administration
* Record allergies
* Intraocular pressure such as Goldman, Tono-Pen, and I-Care
* Pharmacy information
* Pachymetry* Family, social, medical, and ocular history
* Insertion and removal of hard & soft contact lenses
* Visual acuity at distance and near
* Color vision test
* Lensometry* Stereopsis test
* Manual refraction
* Sensorimotor exam
* Confrontational fields
* Automated & manual perimetry
* Humphrey visual fields
* Virtual Reality (VR) visual fields
* Amsler Grid visual fields
* Provides support to providers which includes documentation in patient charts as required and directed for patient care.
* Provides patient-centric care.
* Adheres to University of Miami policies, standards, values, and required training.
* Complies with regulations and maintains patient confidentiality.
* Follows best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control.
* Attends educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned.
* Demonstrates high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness.
* Meets daily productivity goals.
* Ensures all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order.
* Participates in assigned clinical research and maintains required certifications.
* Organizes and stocks rooms for daily clinical activities.
* Travels to satellite eye centers when necessary.
* Works evenings and weekends as needed.
* Performs organizational duties as assigned.
* Completes IVI (intravitreal injection) prep for patients.
* Facilitates motility exams. Supports Virtual Care encounters and exams.

** High School diploma or equivalent

* Experience:
** 1 year of relevant experience

* Displays basic knowledge of ocular anatomy, function, and motility.
* Demonstrates ability to perform the appropriate patient workup using the EMR telehealth platform.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office.
