Patient Finance Specialist – Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital
Jackson Health System – Full Time, Night Shift (11 PM – 7:30 AM), Weekend rotation.
Location:
1695 NW 9th Ave, Miami, FL 33136.
Patient Finance Specialist is responsible for timely and accurate patient registration, interviewing patients for all pertinent account information, and verifying insurance coverage.
Responsibilities- Interview patients and/or family or authorized representatives at the workstation or bedside to obtain all necessary account information.
- Perform bedside registration using carts or computers on wheels.
- Gather patient demographic, insurance, and financial information as warranted.
- Fully search the Master Patient Index (MPI) and assign the correct medical record number.
- Notify supervisor or designate of any medical record number issues.
- Verify all insurance and obtain pre‑certification/authorization for services as warranted.
- Secure proper authorization and approved codes from insurance carriers.
- Accurately assign insurance plans, calculate and collect patient‑liable amounts.
- Explain policies regarding services rendered in accordance with JHS collection policies.
- Process all patient payments in compliance with JHS Collections Policy and Procedure, issue receipts, and maintain payment integrity.
- Ensure all required signatures are obtained for treatments, release of medical information, insurance assignment, and payments from legally responsible parties.
- Obtain copies of patient identification and insurance cards.
- Scan all documents promptly.
- Answer questions and explain policies clearly.
- Assist patients and/or family or representatives with appointment scheduling as warranted.
- Process patient charts according to paperwork flow needs and established productivity standards.
- Produce paperwork for each patient for distribution to appropriate departments.
- Align pertinent documents to establish each patient’s medical record and financial file.
- Welcome patients and family members in a professional manner.
- Contact clinical staff for emergency medical needs and answer patient and visitor questions.
- Inform patients or their representatives of delinquent accounts and attempt to obtain payment.
- Check for physician orders and attach them to the patient’s medical records to ensure proper testing.
- Guide patients to their destination or refer them to a Guest Services Representative.
- Ensure timely bed assignment to place patients in the appropriate unit based on established criteria (specific to Behavioral Health Center).
- Work closely with unit managers to solve transfer issues to or from external facilities (specific to Behavioral Health Center).
- Review insurance contract matrix to verify appropriate hospital placement per patients’ insurance plans (specific to Behavioral Health Center).
- Attend in‑service presentations and complete mandatory education as warranted.
- Attend a minimum of 80 % of scheduled staff meetings.
- Demonstrate behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Expertise).
- Perform all other related job duties as assigned.
Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
EducationHigh school diploma required; bachelor’s degree in a related field strongly preferred.
