About the RoleThe Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) provides primary, acute, and specialty healthcare services autonomously and in partnership with other healthcare professionals in the transplant abdominal unit. Responsibilities include patient assessment, diagnosis, medication prescribing, diagnostic testing, procedural care, patient counseling, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Responsibilities- Use clinical judgment in conducting health assessments, making differential diagnoses, and prescribing pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
- Implement plans through independent action, health counseling, and collaboration with the health team.
- Provide clinical oversight and health center consultation regarding administration of health care policy and procedures.
- Promote optimum health, prevent illness and injury, and manage acute and chronic health problems in an on-site setting.
- Perform physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines and instructions of the physician.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient clinical problems and health care needs.
- Record physical findings and formulate plans and prognoses based on patient condition.
- Provide written home-going instructions.
- Make referrals for follow-up to appropriate community resources.
- Collaborate with other specialties to ensure interdisciplinary management and continuity of care for both inpatients and outpatients.
- Collaborate with physician and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plans as necessary.
- Prescribe or recommend medications or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.
- Refer patients to physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment.
- Maintain detailed and accurate medical records.
- Educate and coach nursing staff on best nursing practices.
- Initiate searches of nursing literature and suggest changes or improvements in patient care standards.
- Integrate current knowledge of professional issues, trends in health care, and technological advances into scope of practice.
- Follow and perform all related unit-specific policies and procedures.
- Utilize job and unit-specific equipment as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including lead job responsibilities such as approving time-off requests, coordinating tracking boards, onboarding fellows, leading staff huddles, and participating in PI projects.
- Psychiatric nurse practitioners may provide psychiatric care in the hospital setting.

- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Generally requires 5 to 7 years of related experience; units at BHH require 1 year of experience.
- Master's degree in Nursing is required.
- Valid Florida Advanced Practice RN license.
- Valid APRN Board certification in a specialty area.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification required upon hire and maintained during employment.
- Maintain valid and current unit-specific and organizational competencies, certifications, and licenses as required by regulatory and nursing standards.
- Unit-specific credentials: FL-BLS and FL-ACLS.
