Description- Perform phlebotomy in accordance with National Patient Safety Goals and Baptist Health published protocols.
- Receive specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) accurately and timely, label, transport, centrifuge, and aliquot specimens.
- Assist customer requests for laboratory information, including send‑out tests to national reference labs.
- Prepare and package specimens for transport to reference labs.
- Research new send‑out requests by physicians using available resources.
- Enter lab charges and CPT codes on all Lab Miscellaneous tests.
- Distribute specimens to testing sections in accordance with collection priority (STAT over Routine). Fax and distribute results as appropriate.
- Maintain knowledge and deployment of policies and procedures used within the department and throughout the hospital to address patient questions and concerns.
- High school diploma, GED, certificate, or equivalent experience.
- AAMA Certified Medical Assistant.
- Phlebotomist Certification.
- Effective August 1, 2013, phlebotomy or medical assistant certificate required; renewal not required.
- Required:
Hospital phlebotomy, computer skills, and ≥1 year specimen processing and send‑outs; excellent interpersonal communication skills, verbal and written; excellent customer service skills; ability to work in a high‑volume fast‑paced environment. - Hospital phlebotomy experience with pediatric, geriatric, oncology, and neonate patients; bilingual preferred.
Minimum required experience: 2 years. Estimated pay range: $19.44–$25.27 per hour, depending on experience.
