Position: Pharmacy Technician 1

Pharmacy Technician 1 – Jackson Health System

Corrections Health Services – CHS Pharmacy. This role is based at two correctional facilities in Miami Dade County. Your location will be assigned based on operational needs.

Shift Details: Full Time, 8‑hour shift, Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM‑4:30 PM; no weekends, holidays off.

Miami‑Dade Corrections Health Services (CHS) operates under Jackson Health System (JHS) and serves approximately 5,000 patients daily. Patient care is delivered by nearly 400 healthcare employees representing a multidisciplinary team of nurses, physicians, psychiatrists, social workers, and other professionals. CHS supports Miami Dade Corrections & Rehabilitation at three facilities and leverages the resources of a large public safety net health system to enhance education, quality, risk management, and compliance.

Summary

The Pharmacy Technician I works under the direct supervision of licensed pharmacists, providing high‑level assistance in compounding (sterile and non‑sterile preparations), distribution, and dispensing of medication and other pharmaceutical supplies.

Responsibilities
  • Replenish automated drug distribution machines following established policies.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to automated drug distribution machines.
  • Forward concerns that cannot be corrected to the appropriate individual in a timely manner.
  • Prepare sterile products (add‑a‑vials, syringes, IV adjuvants, chemotherapy, large‑volume parenterals) following standard procedures under the supervision and check of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Ensure that all quality‑related procedures are followed.
  • Input information into the hospital’s inpatient pharmacy clinical information management system as requested.
  • For areas not served by point‑of‑care automated dispensing equipment, assure that required medications and supplies are dispensed following established procedures.
  • Perform extemporaneous compounding and prepackaging under pharmacy policy guidelines and under the supervision and check of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Order and receive medication inventory; rotate stock and routinely check expiration dates.
  • Follow all established procedures to assure the quality and security of medication assets.
  • Maintain assigned area in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
  • Assemble, tabulate, and analyze quality improvement data when requested.
  • Assist in reports and survey tabulation when requested.
  • Perform monthly patient care center reviews, as assigned.
  • Enter data into the computer system specialized to that activity.
  • Attend orientation, continuing education, and training courses to maintain competency in job skills and knowledge.
  • Participate in required educational programs, including HIS, safety, infection control, AIDS awareness, age‑related special needs and behaviors, etc.
  • Ensure that a pharmacist checks each preparation prior to it being dispensed.
  • Consult with a pharmacist or supervisor when necessary and as required by Florida Statutes, when making exceptions to a policy that would benefit the patient.
  • Refer clinical questions to a pharmacist.
  • Demonstrate behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Expertise).
  • Perform all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience

Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.

Education

High school diploma required.

Credentials

Must hold a Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPT) license and be CPHT certified or hold a Pharmacist Intern license (PSI).
