SummaryPharmacy Technician I works under the direct supervision of licensed pharmacists providing assistance in compounding (sterile and non-sterile preparations), distribution and dispensing of medication and other pharmaceutical related supplies.
Responsibilities- Replenishes automated drug distribution machines following standard procedures.
- Troubleshoots problems related to the operation of the automated drug distribution machines.
- Forwards concerns that cannot be corrected to the appropriate individual in a timely manner.
- Prepares sterile products (add-a-vials, syringes, IV Admixtures, chemotherapy, large volume parenteral) following standard procedures and under supervision and check of a licensed pharmacist.
- Assures all quality related procedures are followed.
- Inputs information into the Hospital's inpatient pharmacy clinical information management system as requested.
- Ensures required medications and supplies are dispensed following established procedures where no point‑of‑care automated dispensing equipment is available.
- Performs extemporaneous compounding and prepackaging under pharmacy policy and supervision.
- Orders and receives medication inventory; rotates stock and checks expiration dates routinely.
- Follows all established procedures to assure the quality and security of medication assets.
- Maintains assigned area neat, clean, orderly.
- Assembles, tabulates, and analyzes quality improvement data when requested.
- Assists in reports and survey tabulation when requested.
- Performs monthly patient care center reviews as assigned.
- Enters data into the specialized computer system as needed.
- Attends orientation, continuing education, and training courses to maintain competency.
- Participates in required educational programs including HIS, safety, infection control, AIDS awareness, age‑related special needs behaviors, etc.
- Ensures a pharmacist checks each preparation prior to dispensing.
- Consults with a pharmacist or supervisor when necessary and as per Florida Statutes when making exceptions.
- Refers clinical questions to a pharmacist.
- Demonstrates service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
- Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
EducationHigh School diploma is required.
SkillsAbility to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines; communicate effectively orally and in writing; handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure; understand and follow instructions; knowledge of job appropriate technology and software applications. Must meet and maintain current unit specific and organizational competencies, certifications/licensures.
CredentialsMust hold a Registered Pharmacy Technician license (RPT) and be CPHT certified or hold a Pharmacist Intern license (PSI).
