Job Summary
The Histotechnologist 3 acts as a laboratory professional who prepares tissues from surgical specimens for histology, electron microscopy, and immunohistochemistry. The incumbent utilizes laboratory and hospital systems to access data and performs other related system functions. Additionally, they perform tissue processing and sectioning.
Core Job Functions
- Prepares tissue specimens for microscopic examinations and handles complex immunohistochemistry jobs for clinical patient diagnosis.
- Maintains quality control standards and reviews quality control in assigned laboratory facilities.
- Determines acceptability of testing results and instrument function.
- Maintains all equipment, places orders for reagents and materials.
- Maintains records of samples including accessioning and paraffin block and slide files, following specimen handling and processing procedures.
- Participates in formulation and revision of departmental policies and procedures.
- Provides guidance and leadership within the assigned section; recommends improvements in laboratory functions.
- Handles clinical and patient concerns confidentially, employing integrity and discretion.
- Identifies and resolves equipment and specimen integrity problems; examines slides under microscope to ensure preparation meets laboratory requirements and conforms to university and unit-level policies and safeguards university assets.
Qualifications
- Education:
Associate’s degree in a relevant field. - Certification and Licensing:
Current Florida Medical Technologist License (Histotechnologist). - Experience:
Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience. - Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
- Ability to complete assignments accurately with attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze, organize, prioritize work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to process confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
