Sr. Histotechnologist - Temporary

Job Overview

Department of Pathology at University of Miami seeks a temporary Sr. Histo‑technologist to prepare surgical tissue specimens for histology, electron microscopy, and immunohistochemistry. The role includes tissue processing, sectioning, quality control, and laboratory support.

• Prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination and handle complex immunohistochemistry cases.
• Maintain quality control and review laboratory facilities.
• Determine acceptability of testing results and instrument function.
• Maintain equipment and place orders for reagents and materials.
• Maintain records of samples including accessioning and slide files; follow specimen handling procedures.
• Participate in formulation and revision of departmental policies and procedures.
• Provide guidance and leadership to employees within assigned section.
• Make recommendations for improvement of laboratory functions.
• Handle clinical and patient concerns confidentially, employ integrity and discretion; identify and resolve equipment and specimen integrity issues.
• Examine slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements; adhere to University and unit‑level policies and safeguard University assets.

• Associate’s degree in a relevant field.
• License from the State of Florida.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
• Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
• Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
• Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
