Work LocationThe Telemetry Technician (U) provides indirect patient care by monitoring the telemetry of patients with continuous cardiac monitoring as ordered by the physician. The incumbent monitors cardiac functions and communicates all findings and changes in heart rhythm to the assigned nurse.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS- Observes cardiac rhythms on the monitors continuously during the shift.
- Recognizes interference and corrects the problem as observed by the nurse.
- Immediately reports dysrhythmias to the appropriate staff.
- Records monitor strips on all patients every 4 hours.
- Documents PR interval, rate, and rhythm on the recorded strip every 4 hours.
- Ensures all telemetry monitor alarms are always on.
- Retrieves rhythms stored in memory upon request.
- Oversees supply inventory and reports malfunctioning equipment.
- Complies with the employee code of ethics and standards of behavior.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of EKG certification program.
- Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience preferred.
