About the RoleThe Outreach Specialist 1 (H) supports developing and implementing public education and outreach programs, serving as a liaison to the community. This full‑time position performs a wide variety of duties and demonstrates a high level of professionalism and effectiveness.
Core Job Functions- Works with community-based organizations to plan promotional educational and other events targeted to increase awareness in the community.
- Aids with preparation and distribution of provider education and mental health navigation manuals.
- Develops professional relationships with mental health providers, researchers, and community members.
- Identifies effective strategies for promoting enrollment in ongoing programs, conducting active and passive recruitment, in‑person and online outreach.
- Collaborates with other team members on special projects and events.
- Adheres to University and unit‑level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
- Conducts brief surveys by phone.
- Aids with compiling data for presentations.
- Upload and document referrals to the Behavioral Health Hub within 48 hours of referrals from participating UM HUB locations and or community providers including PAC, Kendall, School Health, Jackson ACC.
- Review referrals with BHH clinicians, social workers, and program manager.
- Document referrals, coordination of care and referring provider feedback in EPIC.
- Assist providers with coordination of scheduling appointments or services.
- Provide referral information during internal and DOH recurrent Referral Review Meetings.
- Assist BHH with lunch and learn educational trainings of the BHH services.
- Assist BHH with community resources and programs and networking with community services including providers.
- Monitor social media awareness and website traffic.
- Contact parents/guardians to identify social services needs and provide recommendations.
- Document patient information and contact attempts in the BHH Patient Tracker.
- Document BHH coordination and contact with family, PCP, BH organizations, social worker, and/or psychologists.
- Process coordination of care services:
- Identify patient needs and assist in referrals to Behavioral Health Resources.
- Share follow‑up resources with family via phone or email, depending on patient preference.
- Send follow‑up care recommendations to PCP once contact has occurred with family.
- Assist with completing patient referral form, BH assessment tools including PSC‑17.
- Follow‑up BHH patients Follow‑Up Services at scheduled checkpoints: 1, 6, 12, 18‑month follow‑up.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
- Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
- Commitment to the University’s core values.
- Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
- Proficiency in computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office).
Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
Benefits & SalaryThe University of Miami offers competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, tuition remission and more. Salary: $60,000.00–$65,000.00.
