The Surgical Technologist works under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures. The role ensures a safe operating room environment, functional equipment, and optimal patient safety. The CVOR team handles instruments during cardiovascular procedures and performs duties related to preparation, processing, and arrangement of surgical instruments and equipment.

Work Location: UHealth Tower
- Functions as a member of the surgical team in the scrub role.
- Handles instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure.
- Has an understanding of the procedure and anticipates the surgeon’s needs.
- Ensures quality patient care and maintains the sterile field continuously.
- Demonstrates advanced critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Shows superior knowledge of surgical equipment, modalities, and advanced instrumentation.
- Performs as a Surgical Technologist Coordinator when needed.
- Preceptors new hires and trains students in the surgical tech role.
- Reviews operational data related to efficiency and productivity, including FCOTS and TAT metrics.

Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Certification in relevant specialty or field.
- BLS certification.
- CVOR experience; minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
- Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
- Availability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
- Commitment to the University’s core values.
- Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
