Position: RESEARCH AND TRAINING SPECIALIST

RESEARCH AND TRAINING SPECIALIST

This internal advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Dade Correctional Institution in Staff Development.

The mission of Staff Development in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to enhance the professional growth and effectiveness of all employees through comprehensive training and development programs.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

JOB DUTIES
  • Comprehensive Training Coordination: Oversee all staff development and training activities within the service center area, exercising independent judgment while managing the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Trust Fund Budget.
  • Statewide Training Implementation: Plan, manage, coordinate, and administer training programs within the assigned region and other state locations, ensuring compliance with laws, rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Instructor and Mentor: Instruct officer basic recruit training, in-service, specialized, and advanced courses, providing classroom instruction and acting as a mentor to new officers throughout their training and certification period.
  • Data Management and Reporting: Maintain training records using E-Train and ATMSII, conduct training needs assessments, prepare budget requests, and compile and analyze training data to support management decisions.
  • Consultation and Technical Assistance: Provide consultation, technical assistance, and training to staff, institutions, and circuits, assisting with ACA audits and management reviews, and staying updated on departmental procedures, rules, and laws.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Must be currently employed by the Florida Department of Corrections.
  • Must be a certified Criminal Justice Standards & Training Commission instructor.

Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
