Director, IT Security Operations

The University of Miami Health System (UHealth), a leading academic medical center, is hiring a Full‑Time Director, IT Security Operations to oversee all aspects of security operations and support services. This role will lead cybersecurity incident response activities, direct internal teams in threat analysis, monitoring and incident handling, and support strategic IT initiatives across campus.

Core Responsibilities
  • Supervise the performance management of all assigned staff, making decisions on hiring, training, evaluation, promotion, and termination.
  • Manage daily operations and direct staff to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
  • Assume responsibility for campus‑wide initiatives involving computer support services.
  • Develop, promote, and maintain technical support standards, including manufacturing and architectural standards.
  • Design improved work systems by revising work standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Direct and manage project plan development, risk assessment, communications, budget tracking, status reporting, vendor management, and project completion.
  • Provide clarity on departmental mission to support staff, monitor project prioritization, and oversee dashboard and reporting mechanisms.
  • Assume responsibility for enterprise‑wide IT projects and ensure efficient and timely conclusions.
  • Contribute to strategic planning; assist in short‑ and long‑term solutions for campus‑wide initiatives and communicate with administration and staff.
  • Perform follow‑up investigations on inquiries, complaints, and problems.
  • Assist in determining critical milestones and seek ways to improve operations.
  • Oversee the preparation of productivity reports and track progress of action plans.
  • Establish departmental goals and objectives, identify areas of improvement, and implement action plans.
  • Attend professional meetings, workshops, conferences, and seminars to stay current with technological advancements.
  • Assess the effectiveness of internal controls and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures; provide relevant training to staff.
Department‑Specific Functions
  • Lead the enterprise security operations team.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for enterprise patch and vulnerability management.
  • Manage and monitor the University’s security platforms.
  • Coordinate with Managed Detection and Response (MDR) service providers.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day Enterprise IT Security Operations and endpoint protection deployment.
  • Ensure log ingestion from all critical systems into SIEM and MDR tools.
  • Lead Cybersecurity Incident Response activities.
  • Periodically review network and security architecture, and recommend security controls.
  • Support all cybersecurity incident response investigations and prioritize actions.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging threats, and best cybersecurity practices.
  • Collect, analyze, and disseminate cyber threat intelligence from diverse sources.
Core Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
  • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).
  • Security+ certification.
  • Certified Ethical Hacker.
  • Cloud Security certification.
  • 7+ years of experience in information security, particularly on a Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT), CERT, CSIRC, or SOC.
  • 7+ years of experience in another IT function, especially IT audit.
  • 7+ years of experience with regulatory compliance and information security frameworks (e.g., ISO
    27000, COBIT, NIST 800).
  • Ability to react quickly, decisively, and deliberately in high‑stress, high‑impact situations.
  • Strong decision‑making capabilities with a proven ability to weigh costs and benefits and identify optimal actions.
  • Leadership skills: motivate, develop, and train others.
  • Data organization and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate departmental operations.
  • Proficiency in planning, delegating, and supervising work.
  • Use of a combination of education, experience, and certifications may be considered.
