Schedule: As Needed Part‑Time Essential Services position. Work day and/or night shifts, including weekends and holidays. Classified as non‑exempt, eligible for overtime.
Hourly: $28.73/hr

Our Linguists perform real‑time transcriptions of sensitive material from Urban English to English; collect, analyze, identify, and decode colloquialisms and slang terms; extract pertinent information and communicate it to law‑enforcement agent(s). The linguist transcribes source documents and recordings from storage media, including but not limited to audio‑cassettes, video‑cassettes, or digital media.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Listen to oral and written intercepts or pre‑recorded communications in Urban English and provide verbal and written synopsis and transcriptions as applicable per project.
- Relate all pertinent information to the client when supporting a live project.
- Contribute to a master‑list of slang words and codes used by a particular group/organization for the duration of the project/case.
- Maintain a voice library for the duration of the project.
- Transcribe and translate pertinent calls and documents as assigned by supervisor.
- Produce court‑ready transcriptions of pertinent calls, chats, and documents following the required format.
- Use reference tools created during the project.
- Transcribe a minimum of 16 minutes of recorded conversation in an 8‑hour day.
- Operate specialized software equipment provided by the government, including JSI voice box, Pen‑link, Comverse, and other communication collection equipment at the assigned site.
- Maintain a daily log of productivity.
- Perform related duties as assigned within scope of practice.
- Bachelor’s degree AND three (3) years’ experience in a professional setting OR Associate degree AND five (5) years’ experience OR High School Diploma AND seven (7) years of experience.
- Minimum one (1) year of transcription experience in the required language.
- Government background investigation subject; may need to meet eligibility for classified information.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.
- Knowledge of source language colloquial terms and expressions.
- Knowledgeable in SMS language, social media, and Webchat.
- Excellent verbal and written skills in the target language, with correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Score of 3 or better on a third‑party Language Assessment (Listening/Speaking/Reading/Writing) in English.
- Strong computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to work under pressure, fast‑paced environment, and communicate effectively with management and law‑enforcement personnel.
- Strong prioritization, time‑management, meeting strict deadlines, balancing multiple tasks, teamwork.
- Take technical direction and feedback from various sources.
- Type 45 words per minute.
- Ability to obtain/maintain a Security Clearance.
- Favorable credit check for all cleared positions.
- Successfully passing a background investigation, medical and drug screen.
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident who has lived in the U.S. for the past 3 of 5 years.
- Standing/Walking/Mobility:
Enough mobility to attend meetings with managers and employees. - Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: 0% - 10% of time.
- Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: 0% - 10% of time.
- Fingering/Grasping/Feeling:
Must write, type and use telephone system 100% of time. - Sitting:
Prolonged sitting while monitoring live or taped calls. Ability to leave desk may be restricted during live monitoring.
