Summary

The United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida's (USAO-SDFL) mission is to enforce and defend the laws of the United States of America through the prosecution of criminal cases brought by the Federal government; the prosecution and defense of civil cases in which the United States is a party; and the collection of debts owed to the Federal government that are administratively uncollectible.

This Supervisory Paralegal Specialist provides administrative and technical support regarding case development, performing paralegal research, and leadership to subordinate staff.

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Supervisory Paralegal Specialist support in the U.S. Attorney's Office, Southern District of Florida, located in Miami, Florida, focusing in the areas of case development, legal research and supervisory duties.

Typical work assignments will includes:
  • Administrative and technical supervision of subordinate staff to include planning work assignments and assessing quality of tasks.
  • Provide guidance regarding the Rule 20, Rule 21(b), and Rule 40 program.
  • Drafts legal documents and assists in pre-trial preparation.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience for the respective grade level in which you are applying:

To qualify at the GS-12 level, you must possess:

Specialized Experience:
At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) 3 of the 4 duties listed below:
  • Performing legal research (i.e. researching and/or summarizing factual aspects of cases, analyzing reports, testimony, interviews, or files);
  • Planning work assignments for subordinate staff and/or assuring quality of tasks performed by staff;
  • Assisting in case preparation (i.e. summarizing information or ensure that information is lawfully released or withheld);
  • Resolving problems/questions and/or advising on Rule 20, Rule 21(b) and Rule 40 cases.

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level.
