About the RoleThe Course Reserves Supervisor has overall responsibility for the day‑to‑day operations of Course Reserves. Primary duties include supervising the processing of incoming and outgoing reserves requests, maintaining the physical organization of reserves collections, promoting uReserves (Leganto) and the Course Reserves service through partnerships with the Learning Commons, outreach to faculty, library liaisons, and the campus bookstore. Coordinate textbook accessibility program, process electronic reserves (e‑reserves) in accordance with copyright law, manage related accounts in uReserves (Leganto) and Blackboard, and maintain all related files and statistics.
Additional duties include assisting in supervising the Access Services Desk operations in support of the Learning Commons and Library Operations, answering ready‑reference and directional questions, supervising student workers, and assisting the Access Services Managers in maintaining a scholarly atmosphere within the library.
This full‑time position may be required to work during any of the library operation hours:
Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am to 2:00 pm;
Friday, 7:30 am to 10:00 pm;
Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, and 24/7 during end‑of‑semester exam periods. During shortened and summer hours, the schedule varies. The current schedule is Thursday through Monday, with shifts from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Monday and Thursday, 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Friday, and 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday, but is subject to change as needed by the department.
- Reserves Processing and Electronic Reserves Services (50%)
- Maintain positive customer relations with faculty, students, staff, vendors, and publishers.
- Serve as the primary contact for faculty and resolve situations related to course reserves.
- Interview, evaluate, train, and supervise student assistants.
- Oversee the day‑to‑day operations of all aspects related to Reserves and e‑reserves.
- Manage all aspects of accounts, including updating course materials each semester and returning material to professors for courses not offered during the current term.
- Keep statistics for course reserves and e‑reserves.
- Digitize materials for e‑reserves in compliance with copyright laws.
- File for copyright compliance for reserves and coordinate payments.
- Assist in creating policies and procedures for course reserves (including e‑reserves) and update them regularly.
- Maintain Course Reserve manuals and inform faculty of procedural changes, copyright, policies, and services.
- Prepare routine orders from Acquisitions for items requested for reserves.
- Maintain and update all web pages related to Course Reserves.
- Answer questions regarding Reserve procedures, policies, records, and transactions.
- Create course lists and item records; create reading lists in Alma and uReserves (Leganto).
- Access Desk Responsibilities (30%)
- Supervise services and staff at the Access Desk.
- Coordinate referrals and support to the Learning Commons Services.
- Serve as a contact for staff and patron problem resolution.
- Monitor workflow and establish priorities as needed.
- Coordinate staffing assignments with the Circulation Manager.
- Check in/out and renew library, ILL, and Reserve materials; maintain headcounts and paging workflow.
- Issue and update library patron permits/passes and Temporary CaneIDs.
- Answer questions regarding circulation procedures and patron accounts.
- Monitor library entrance and public areas to ensure patrons follow library policies.
- Negotiate situations involving fines, encumbrances, or returned claims.
- Assist with library closing duties, clearing stacks on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors.
- Instruct patrons with library equipment such as copy machines, microfilm readers, and AV equipment.
- Implement, interpret, and enforce departmental, library, and university policies.
- Ensure the circulation desk is neat and stocked with necessary supplies.
- Report facility complaints and security problems as appropriate.
