Pre‑Trial Detention Center
Address: 1321 NW 13th Street, Miami, Florida 33125
Shift: Full‑time, nights 3/4 rotating schedule 7:00 pm–7:30 am.

Overview

Miami‑Dade Corrections Health Services (CHS) operates under Jackson Health System (JHS) and serves approximately 5,000 patients daily. Patient care is delivered by nearly 400 healthcare employees who represent a diverse, multidisciplinary team.
Jackson South Medical Center offers a full spectrum of services and is staffed by nationally respected, board‑certified physicians and healthcare professionals across a wide array of specialties and subspecialties, including private rooms, an expanded emergency department, and state‑of‑the‑art operation suites.

Summary
:
The Licensed Practical Nurse performs advanced practical nursing work in the care and treatment of physically or mentally ill patients. Responsibilities include specialized nursing duties, instruction, and assistance to physicians and nurses in inpatient or outpatient settings.

Responsibilities
  • Interview patients about current problems, medications, and allergies; review medical records for pertinent information.
  • Keep patients informed of their medical condition and the treatment plan being prescribed by an MD.
  • Participate in patient treatment regimen, including administering medications under supervision of a physician and registered nurse.
  • Establish and document patient treatment regimen under supervision of an RN or MD and implement treatment as directed.
  • Perform routine immunizations, nebulizer treatments, visual acuity testing, and administer and read TB tests.
  • Assist in phlebotomy: identify patient, check requisition for requested tests, and prepare equipment and puncture site.
  • Assist in IV set‑up: verify solution to be administered, evaluate infusion site, check IV function and patient comfort, and discontinue IV at the appropriate time as ordered by MD and under supervision of an RN.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of narcotics after each tour of duty, keep examination room supplies and prepare exam rooms at the beginning and end of day and between each patient contact.
  • Perform a variety of office responsibilities: answer phones, take messages, and perform triage within scope of licensed practical nursing practice in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Facilitate and assist in the coordination of patient referrals.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of new personnel.
  • Demonstrate commitment to service excellence by consistently adjusting work pace when needed to maintain or improve patient care outcomes.
  • Follow and perform all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency checklist.
  • Utilize job and unit specific equipment as required.
  • Demonstrate behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Expertise). Perform all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience

Generally requires 1 to 3 years of related experience.

Education

Graduation from an accredited LPN program is required.

  • Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by the nursing area.
Credentials
  • Valid Florida LPN license.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
  • 30‑hour IV training must be from a Florida Board of Nursing approved program or a Compact Nursing State (states participating in the multi‑state compacts) program.
