Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) – Family Medicine

FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: Medical Director / Supervising Physician

Position Purpose

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), Board Certified in Family Medicine, provides comprehensive, patient-centered primary healthcare services to individuals and families across the lifespan. Working independently within established clinical protocols and collaboratively with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams, the APRN is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, and management of acute and chronic health conditions.

This position plays a vital role in advancing Empower “U”, Inc.’s mission to deliver accessible, high-quality, culturally competent healthcare to diverse and underserved communities. The APRN supports preventive care initiatives, promotes patient education and self-management, ensures continuity of care, and contributes to improved population health outcomes. As an exempt clinical position, the APRN is accountable for clinical productivity, documentation timeliness, regulatory compliance, and participation in organizational and community-based activities.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Elicit, document, and evaluate comprehensive patient health histories, distinguishing between normal and abnormal findings and initiating appropriate clinical interventions in accordance with approved protocols and physician consultation.

  • Perform complete physical examinations utilizing observation, inspection, palpation, percussion, and auscultation; interpret diagnostic findings and laboratory results in alignment with established clinical guidelines.

  • Provide patient-centered health education, counseling, preventive care, and disease management services.

  • Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions in compliance with standing orders, clinical protocols, and scope of practice.

  • Order, review, and evaluate diagnostic tests and procedures as clinically indicated.

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical records using SOAP documentation standards.

  • Manage common acute and chronic conditions within the framework of approved clinical protocols.

  • Collaborate with patients and families to develop and implement comprehensive, individualized plans of care.

  • Consult, collaborate with, and refer patients to physicians, specialists, and ancillary providers as required by clinical protocol.

  • Coordinate care with internal and external professionals and agencies, including but not limited to Healthy Start, Social Work, WIC, Medicaid eligibility services, and Public Health Departments.

  • Deliver high-quality, compassionate care that aligns with organizational quality, safety, and patient satisfaction standards.

  • Participate in organizational and community outreach activities, including health fairs and special events.

  • Maintain required monthly productivity standards.

  • Report to work on time, prepared to deliver patient care, with minimal absenteeism.

  • Complete billing and encounter (B&E) documentation on the same day services are rendered.

  • Ensure all clinical documentation is accurate, complete, and finalized within the same day of patient intervention.

  • Adhere strictly to all Confidentiality Policies, Procedures, and HIPAA regulations.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of patient care delivery and organizational operations.

Position Requirements / QualificationsEducation and Experience
  • Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college or university with a clinical specialty in Family Medicine.

Licensure and Certification
  • Board Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or other recognized certifying body.

  • Current, unrestricted Florida Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) license.

  • Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
