Research Associate 1, SOM — University of Miami
Join the University of Miami’s Pathology Department as a Research Associate 1 in the School of Medicine (SOM), supporting research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. The incumbent will advance his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.
Core Job Functions- Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
- Participates in the publication of significant results.
- Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
- Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
- Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.
- Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.
- Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
- Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.
- Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.

The Research Associate 1 will report to Dr. David Lombard, Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Lombard’s group studies relationships between cancer, aging, and metabolism.
Duties include:
- Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records, including sample logs and analytical reports.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and quality assurance standards.
- Collaborate with scientists and researchers to support experimental design and data interpretation.
- Assist in method development and validation for new assays.
- As needed, work with others in the lab on non‑MS‑related projects, particularly to help complete projects for publication.
- Present results at weekly group meetings.
- Participate in lab maintenance tasks.
