The Pathology Department at the University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate 1.
Summary
The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.
Core Job Functions
- Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
- Participates in the publication of significant results.
- Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
- Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
- Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the
- Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.
- Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
- Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.
- Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
Department Specific Functions
Perform specialized routine and specialized diagnostic procedures in the areas of
chemistry, hematology, and immunology utilizing standard protocols involving ELISA, IFA,
microscopy, serology, RIA, gel electrophoresis, chemistry and hematology analyzers and
others. Calculate test results. All tests have maximum turnaround time of 4-6 hours
necessitating excellent work and organizational skills. Works independently in these areas.
Operate sensitive and complex laboratory equipment including maintenance
and troubleshooting/minor repairs.
Accessions and registers clinical specimens received for all testing areas of the lab
utilizing a computer system
Assist in research projects inclusive of test performance and data basing.
