Department Specific FunctionsThe Assistant Scientist will play a key role in preparing data for a regulatory submission to the United States Food and Drug Administration for a spinal cord injury therapeutic as part of a collaborative project between Dr. Jae Lee and Hassan Al‑Ali’s laboratories at the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. This position is highly translational, requiring the generation of data that directly supports the progression from laboratory research to clinical application.
Accountabilities- Perform rodent surgeries, behavioral analysis, and post‑op care related to spinal cord injury.
- Conduct histology, immunohistochemistry and microscopy.
- Do routine molecular biology (cloning, PCR, RT‑PCR, prepare viral vectors) to support in vivo experiments.
- Maintain laboratory areas; order lab supplies; participate in weekly lab meetings, presenting results and methods; plan weekly work schedules; keep detailed laboratory notebooks, surgical records and SOPs; prepare IACUC protocol submissions; prepare first drafts of manuscripts.
- Assist in training postdocs, graduate students, undergraduates and scholars.
- Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral level degree in Neuroscience or a related field.
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
